As a special Christmas gift, my wife was able to find me a copy of “Lawrence of Arabia” on Laserdisc! This is one of my favorite classic films and I’m so glad to have it in the collection, once again.

I hit the 100 LaserDiscs milestone!
It has taken quite a while for me to reach it, but today I finally hit the 100 mark for the number of LaserDiscs in our movie library! I bought my first LaserDisc (which was Beverly Hills Cop 2) back in 1994. It, along with the Pioneer CLD-1091 LD player I purchased at the same time, was the start of my (I guess what you could call) “love affair” with the LaserDisc media format, which has lasted these past twenty eight years.

Do you store upright or stacked?
So, what is the best way to store your collection of VHS tapes? In order to make shelf space go a little further, is it safe to store your tapes stacked one on top of each other, or is it better to store them upright standing next to each other? I have always stored my VHS tapes standing upright, but as my collection grows, I can see that I would be able to store more tapes on the shelf if I stacked them. But, I really don’t know if doing this will have any sort of negative effect on the life of the tape.

Our Neuros OSD is still a cornerstone of our video library
Over fifteen years old and this little piece of technology has been a cornerstone of our video library since we bought it, back in 2006. Our Neuros OSD has been a reliable workhorse, providing us with countless hours of care-free movie watching and recording; and this is my little tribute to this overlooked and under-appreciated media player.

Why LaserDiscs are still my favorite video format
So, after all of these years, why are LaserDiscs still my favorite video format to watch and collect? One of the reasons I enjoy watching movies on LaserDisc so much is probably because I also grew up listening to and collecting music on vinyl LPs and 45s. There’s just something that resonates with me concerning the whole hands on experience that LaserDisc viewing involves.

LaserDisc: A turntable for your television
LaserDiscs have always been my favorite home video format ever since I bought my first LD player, back in the mid-90s. I knew about it back in the 80s, but I didn’t pay them any attention because they just didn’t make much of an impact with me back then.
